Shropshire News: Free workshops on offer to Shropshire & Staffordshire women

Women across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin are invited to sign up for free workshops to boost their digital business skills as part of the Women and Broadband Challenge, thanks to a partnership between Women in Rural Enterprise (WiRE) Connecting Shropshire and Superfast Telford.

Now in its second year after achieving further funding from the Government Equalities Office and Broadband Delivery UK, the Women and Broadband Challenge will run until next March (2016) as a programme of half-day events with free workshops covering topics including blogging for business, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), online accounting, how to build a website in a day and the ever popular Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

The workshops will be delivered in community venues in Shrewsbury, Telford, Newport and North and South Shropshire as well as over the border in Staffordshire.

Emma Cantillion, of WiRE UK, says: “All local women are encouraged to take advantage of the FREE workshops, which will answer all of those niggling questions and promise to be friendly, informative and de-mystifying.”

She adds: “The Challenge’s aim is to help women make the most of new superfast technologies –making sure they have the skills to flourish in the digital age whether they are currently employed, run their own business, or are returning from a career break.”

Tina Woodward, Shropshire Council’s Deputy Cabinet member with responsibility for broadband, said:

“These FREE workshops are a fantastic opportunity for women. The Challenge develops a greater understanding, skills and the confidence required to enable women to benefit from the digital technologies that are not only in, and being enhanced, in Shropshire, but further afield.

“Owing to the success of Phase 1, I’d encourage women across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Staffordshire to take advantage of the workshops whether they’re in employment, a business owner or starting a new business.”

Kathy Mulholland, Inward Investment & Business Support Manager at Telford and Wrekin Council, comments: “This is an excellent opportunity for our local business women to take advantage of expert knowledge which will help them enhance their digital skills and improve their businesses. I am delighted that our partnership is able to deliver these free sessions as part of our continuing support for businesses across the borough.”
